Channel Operator Guide

Overview:

Channel operators have control of the channel, for example, kicking, banning, and so on. If you are to be given permanent ops (operator) status in a room, you must have registered your nickname with nickserv first, and Identified with Nickserv on login. Nickserv instructions are on the Chat Help page.

Op Mode

The channel founder/owner can set up the channel so that your are automatically opped when you enter the channel and/or just add you to the access list so that you can op yourself via commands to Chanserv or Yabby (bot). For a complete list of chanserv commands, see the Services Commands.

Yabby
If Yabby has been configured for commands, to get ops, just type !op
Or to give op status to another user non-permanently, type !op nick
To remove ops from a user, type !deop nick or to remove your own ops type !deop
Chanserv
To get ops via Chanserv, type /cs op #channel

/cs op #channel nick

/cs deop #channel nick

Operator Functions

Ops have many ways to control the channel, and the users in it.

- Channel Topic

Channel Topic is the line you see in the top text bar of the applet. It can be changed by typing in that bar. (To set the channel mode so that only ops can set topics, and to keep the topic continuously until changed, see Services.)
It can also be changed by typing /topic This is the new topic.

- Kicks/Bans

To kick a user from a channel:
Yabby- type !kick username reason
Chanserv- type /cs kick #channel username reason
To ban a user from a channel:
Yabby- type !kb username reason
Chanserv- type /cs akick #channel username reason

You can also use the applet for simple ops commands, by highlighting the nickname to ban/kick and right-clicking.
